Giro d'Italia: Dversnes surprises in Milan

Four-man breakaway at the finish, sprinters outwitted
Fredrik Dversnes won the 15th stage of the Giro d'Italia, from Voghera to Milan, 157 km.
A four-man breakaway comprised Marcellusi, Bais, Maestri, and Dversnes. Upon entering the final circuit, the peloton recovered much of the gap, but not before the jury decided, at the riders' request, to neutralize the times at the final crossing of the finish line, 16 km from the finish. This controversial measure was due to the supposedly dangerous nature of the route through the city.
In the end, the four escapees managed to finish ahead of the peloton. Dversnes of Uno X was the one to celebrate, outsprinting Maestri and Marcellusi. Magnier led the sprinters, but only finished fifth. Milan was out of the top 10. The overall standings remained unchanged, with Jonas Vingegaard still in the pink jersey. Tomorrow is a rest day.
