The class of '98 of the DSM Team beats Milan and Matthews on the finish line in Caorle

The seventeenth stage of the Giro d'Italia is the last chance for the sprinters, before the final parade on Sunday in Rome : 197km from Pergine Valsugana with a favorable road towards the seafront of Caorle. In fact, the four fugitives ( Champion, Quarterman, Sevilla and Leysen ) are given little space. The last one to give up is Leysen who is caught up with 5 km to go. The last corner, at -600 metres, is taken in the lead by the men of the Dainese DSM Team, the sprint is launched from a very long distance by Matthews, Milan starts, like in Tortona, from too far away and fails to comeback. The photo finish decreed the victory of Dainese , who repaid his team's work in a big way, ahead of Milan and Matthews . Great result today for the Italians with six riders in the top ten.

In the general classification, everything remains unchanged pending the next three decisive mountain stages.
