Departure from Holland, 5 unpublished uphill arrivals
After the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France , the 2022 route of the Vuelta di Spagna has been unveiled, which will start from Utrecht , the Netherlands , on August 19 with a team time trial.
As always, there is no shortage of mountains for the 77th edition of the Iberian race. The Pico Jano , in Cantabria , will be the scene of a first selection among the contenders for the final victory in the 6th stage, followed by Asturias , with two top finishes, the new Collau Fancuaya and the Alto Les Praeres .
After a second day of rest, here is an individual time trial, the only one in this Vuelta , 31.1 km long in the province of Alicante . The road will pick up again with an arrival at the top of the Penas Blancas already covered a few years ago, but which will have 4 kilometers more than the last passage.
The end of the second week will not be easy with the uphill finishes in the Sierra de la Pandera and Sierra Nevada . During the third week, there will be in particular two stages for the sprinters, the last of which will arrive in Madrid on 11 September. But first three high-altitude arrivals in Monasterio de Tentudia , Alto del Piornal and Puerto de Navacerrada , on the penultimate day of the race.
In all, there are nine uphill finishes, five of which are new, two time trials, seven mountain stages, four mid-mountain stages, six flat stages and two flat stages with arrivals at high altitude. For a total of 3,276.3 km.
