Giulio Pellizzari gave an exclusive interview to Fantacycling, with a recorded interview lasting about twenty minutes.
The Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe rider had an informal chat with Fede , talking about how he is experiencing his first Giro as captain and revealing behind-the-scenes information on the Giro d’Italia.
The first topic discussed was Pellizzari's condition and the consequences of a minor illness: "I'm much better now, but it hurts to read the negative comments , especially on social media. That's how it works in Italy: if you win, everyone praises you, but if you don't do so well, you get criticized. More than just physically, I feel a bit on the edge psychologically.
Another thing that bothers me is that whatever is done, they are all professors who want to have their say."
" Vingegaard ? I tried to follow him on the Blockhaus , we know in the group that he is a rather mentally fragile rider, already in the 2nd stage when he attacked he was disappointed that I managed to stay on his wheel, so I tried to stay with him as much as possible, but on that occasion he was stronger.
In Pila, however, I felt very good and it was a tactic to stay at the back of the group to go as consistently as possible."
"Do you feel the pressure , also being an idol of so many fans and children?"
"Not yet. In fact, these displays of affection really boost my energy, even though thinking about the standings and the battle with the other riders makes me a little emotional. I think I'm gaining a lot of experience and will learn to manage everything better."
To close Fede asked if Giulio will return to Monte Serra to compete
"My plan includes it, I should do all the Italian races at the end of the year; after the Giro I'll do the Italian Championship, the San Sebastián, the Vuelta a Burgos, the World Championship , maybe the European Championship and the Lombardia ; for this year I'm ruling out the Vuelta... maybe the Tour in 2027, even if I had already thought about it for this year".
