Basque's solo: Simmons and Baudin defeated
Ion Izagirre (Cofidis) wins the Gran Premio Miguel Indurain, a Spanish ProSeries race, starting and finishing in Estella-Lizarra (203.9 km).
After the group caught up with the initial five-man breakaway of the day, there were numerous attempts to break away on the continuous ups and downs of the route.
Among others, Tiberi , Van Eetvelt , Alvarez and Omrzel also try, but their attempts are stopped.
On the Alto de Eraul, Izagirre and Simmons break away and build a comfortable lead over the peloton. Beloki attempts to catch up with the leading pair alone, succeeding with 6 km to go.
On the Alto de Ibana, the final climb of the day, Izagirre attacked and managed to break away from his two rivals: the home rider sprinted solo to the finish line and triumphed. Second place went to Simmons, third to Baudin.
