Dorian Godon wins the first stage of the Tour de Romandie from Château d'Oex to Friborg (165.7 km) and also takes the yellow jersey as leader of the general.

Six riders attempted to escape in the first part of the race: Masnada, Hollmann, Gamper, Garcia Pierna, Herregodts and Rosskopf.

On Lorette's climb, 30 km from the finish line, Christen moves followed even by Carapaz and Gaudu , but their attempt is stopped in a few kilometres, while Zijlaard's yellow jersey breaks away from the main group.

On the last climb of the day Alaphilippe tries to extend without success, but manages to bring the group, made up of around fifty units, back onto the attackers.

The final sprint, on a very narrow straight, was won by Dorian Godon who preceded his teammate Vendrame and Vermeersch .
