The Spaniard retires during the 18th stage

After Mikel Landa and Primoz Roglic, Juan Ayuso also abandons the Giro d'Italia.

The Spaniard, one of the big favorites of the 2025 pink race, stopped after a few kilometers of the 18th stage. After the fall in Siena and the collapse in the last two mountain stages, the Uae Emirates rider withdrew after being the protagonist of another misadventure.

Yesterday Ayuso was stung by a hornet in the face. The insect entered the rider's helmet and left a visible mark on Ayuso's face at the start of today's stage in Morbegno.

Given that his eye was practically closed due to the sting, and the relative danger of riding the bicycle, the Spaniard stopped after 30 km.
