Fantacycling analyzes: 2022 of the fast two wheels compared

They were considered the two strongest pure sprinters of the season even if, in terms of points and quantity-cost ratio, they did not perform as expected. We are talking about Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) and Fabio Jakobsen (Quick Step Alpha Vinyl), protagonists in the group sprints and a challenge that will certainly be renewed also in 2023.

On the other hand, analyzing 2022, we discover that the Belgian from Alpecin has obtained 1,437 fantapoints , conquering nine victories including the two stages in the Tour de France, two stages in the UAE Tour and the Paris-Bourges (non-World Tour race). Voted by the Fantacycling community as the best sprinter of the year, he often finished in minor competitions where, however, he often had to leave room for teammate Tim Merlier.

Ironically, the latter will race with Fabio Jakobsen from next season, obviously dividing the main races in the program. The Dutchman, winner of 13 races, paid for the few stages available to the sprinters in the Tour, winning only one and risking running out of time at Peyragudes. Those who chose him celebrated only at the European championship, won easily, while those who believed in it from the start, cannot be satisfied with his 762 fantapoints .

So a challenge won, just a little, by Philipsen. And for 2023? There will still be many opportunities for both of them but beware of the initial evaluations that will come out shortly. There may be sensational surprises that can make you change your mind.
