Very bad news regarding cycling. Sara Piffer, a nineteen-year-old athlete of Team Mendelspeck Ge-Man was hit and killed this morning during a training session.

The girl was training with her brother Christian (also an Under 23 cyclist) on a road in the Piana Rotaliana that connects Mezzocorona to Mezzolombardo (province of Trento).  

According to RaiNews, a car driven by a seventy-year-old from the area, who was coming in the opposite direction and was overtaking another car, hit the young woman.

Despite the intervention of the 118 helicopter and attempts to resuscitate her, including with a defibrillator, the girl did not make it. The young athlete from Palù di Giovo was immediately thrown to the ground and remained unconscious on the asphalt. The injuries sustained by the young woman, who had also previously run for the Italian national team, were unfortunately rapidly fatal. The Rotaliana local police intervened on the scene and are carrying out investigations.
