The Australian is undergoing further tests

Michael Matthews will have to stop all sporting activity due to a suspected pulmonary embolism. The Australian runner of Jayco-AlUla showed the first symptoms during the training camp at altitude with the team, forcing the medical staff to intervene with caution.

The team itself announced this in an official statement, explaining: “As a precautionary measure, it was decided to suspend all physical activity of the runner, until further decisions are made.”

Matthews, 34, will not take part in the 2025 Tour de France, his main objective for the second part of the season. His participation has been excluded precisely to protect the athlete's health, pending further clinical tests.

"The situation is stable - the statement continues - and our doctors are working to understand the extent and causes of the problem, in order to define a safe and effective recovery path. During this period, Matthews will not take part in any competition".
