Alberto Bettiol (XDS Astana) wins the 13th stage of the Giro d'Italia, from Alessandria to Verbania (189 km).

After a few kilometers of battle, a 15-man breakaway forms, with no riders posing a threat to the general classification.

In fact, nothing happens until the final climbs, with Groupama working for Kench .
The New Zealander attacks on the Ungiasca GPM and Bettiol , Leknessund and Valgren remain with him.

1 km from the summit, Leknessund breaks away with Bettiol managing to resist him and attack at the summit himself.

The Astana rider increases his lead on the downhill and triumphs alone. Leknessund 2nd, Stuyven 3rd.

The group takes another day off, gets to over 12 minutes, and postpones the battle for the standings until tomorrow.
