The sixteenth stage was also his, Pellizzari caught up in the last kilometre

The sixteenth stage of the Giro d'Italia is modified due to bad weather: the first part of the stage starting from Livigno and crossing the Umbrail Pass is cancelled; the start was given two and a half hours later than expected from Spondigna for a total of 118.7 km.

Four riders attempt to escape in the first kilometres: Maestri , Ballerini , Piccolo and Alaphilippe , with the latter remaining alone in the lead on the first ramps of Passo Pinei.

Pellizzari , Scaroni and Costiou start from the group in pursuit of the Frenchman, while Bardet breaks away among the best.

The four regroup with 5 km to go, but two kilometers later Alaphilippe breaks away. In the hardest stretch of Monte Pana Pellizzari attacks decisively alone, while in the pink jersey group Pogacar pulls ahead and gets rid of the other men in the classification.

In the last hundred meters the Slovenian reaches and overtakes Pellizzari and takes off towards his fifth victory in this pink race. Behind him, Pellizzari beats Martinez in the sprint for second place.

Lots of Italy today with Scaroni fourth and Tiberi fifth gaining on Arensman, O'Connor and Thomas.
