Del Toro still in pink, fall for Pellizzari

Nicolas Prodhomme (Decathlon AG2R) wins the 19th stage of the Giro d'Italia from Biella to Champoluc , 166 km.

Antonio Tiberi goes on the attack, aiming to win the stage, given that at the start he is 15th in the general classification, 14' and 48” behind the pink jersey.

Along with the Italian rider, his Bahrain teammate Pello Bilbao, Louis Mentjes (Intermarché Wanty), Bart Lemmen (Visma - Lease a Bike, Igor Arrieta (Team UAE), Nicholas Prodhomme (Decathlon AG2R) and Carlos Verona (Lidl Trek) also attacked.

The attacking riders manage to gain about three minutes on the pink jersey group in which all the best of the general classification remain compact both on the Col Tzecore and on the Saint Pantaleon. At the intermediate sprint in Saint Vincent Tiberi passes first, ahead of Verona and the two, together with Prodhomme, take advantage of this to gain ground on their breakaway companions.

With about 30 km to go, at the start of the climb of the Col de Joux, the pink jersey group is about 2' from the front. Then Prodhomme pulls away and stays alone in the lead, with Verona and Tiberi being caught by the pink jersey group with 25 km to go.

At the end of the Col de Joux, Carapaz tries to attack, but Yates and Del Toro quickly get on his wheel, as does the rest of the big group.

On the descent Prodhomme gains, manages the advantage on the climb of Antagnod and arrives alone at the finish line.

In the pink jersey group Carapaz tries to attack again, and only Del Toro manages to hold his wheel.

In the sprint, the pink jersey precedes the Ecuadorian and takes the six-second bonus, while in the final sprint of the immediate pursuers, Pellizzari ends up on the ground; Caruso places fourth and McNulty fifth.
