The Frenchman surprises everyone in Sofia too, Milan outwitted

Paul Magnier wins the third stage of the Giro d'Italia from Plovdiv to Sofia , 175 km.

Three riders, Manuele Tarozzi (Bardiani) and the Polti VisitMalta duo, Alessandro Tonelli and Diego Pablo Sevilla , broke away from the first kilometre, with the Spaniard looking for points for the climbers' classification.

The group seems to be in control, but the escapees still have a 40" lead with 12 km to go and manage to sprint at the Red Bull Km: Tarozzi takes the lead, ahead of Sevilla, while Tonelli comes in third.    The peloton only caught up with its three attackers with 500 meters to go, as the sprint got underway. Milan took the lead, but Magnier overtook him in the final meter and won, while Groenewegen finished third.

Uruguayan Guillermo Silva remains in the pink jersey with a 4-second lead over Florian Stork and Egan Bernal.
