There were surprises in the second stage of the Giro d'Italia, a very tortuous individual time trial with a slight uphill finish in the center of Budapest, 9.2 km long.

The winner was Simon Yates , with the first victory of a career time trial in a great race in three weeks, and author of an amazing test (time of 11'50 "), ahead of Mathieu Van der Poel (11'53"), Tom Dumoulin (11'55 ") and the blue Matteo Sobrero (12'03").

Vincenzo Nibali, Romain Bardet and Mikel Landa defend well, disappointing compared to the forecasts of the eve of Joao Almeida.

Van der Poel keeps the pink jersey with 11 seconds on Yates himself.
