Elisa Longo Borghini won the ninth stage of the Giro d'Italia Women, 145 km long, starting and finishing in Saluzzo.

A spectacular stage from the start: on the Montoso climb, Demi Vollering (yesterday's winner of the half-stage on the Colle delle Finestre) pushed hard, leaving only the strongest riders at the front. At the end of the descent, Niedermaier attacked, followed by Longo Borghini and Fisher Black. The three immediately gained two minutes, while behind them, Vollering managed to drop the pink jersey van der Breggen on the final climb of the Colletta di Brondello, over 30 km from the finish. The Dutch rider managed to catch up with the three riders ahead of her, but failed to sprint for the stage victory, which went to Longo Borghini ahead of Fisher Black.

Van der Breggen, the loser of the day, was more than two minutes behind but managed to maintain third place behind Vollering and Niedermaier. Longo Borghini finished fourth.

Demi Vollering, fourth at the finish, thus wins the pink race after the Tour and the Vuelta.
