Analysis of the ten protagonists of 2022
Let's start our analysis on the ten riders who in the 2022 season scored the most points at Fantacycling by browsing, thanks to our app, who were the best for the different categories.
10 Mathieu Van der Poel - 2,582 points : in sharp decline compared to 2021 (where he had scored 3,336 points), the Alpecin talent pays for a lackluster second part of the season. Back in Sanremo with a third place, he looked like the man destined to dominate the Northern classics. And instead, after the successes of Flanders and Dwars, he finished fourth at the Amstel and ninth at the Roubaix. Returning to the Giro, he immediately won a stage and wore the pink jersey, scoring several placings (and points). After an anonymous tour ended early, he remained in the pits until the World dream, shipwrecked in a sleepless night in an Australian hotel. DISCONTINUOUS
9 Sergio Higuita - 2,699 points : one of the bargains of the season for those who believed in it. From a little incisive 2021, the Colombian from Bora has awakened by changing teams and goals. Constant since March, when he won Catalunya, passing through Liège (fifth), arriving at Switzerland (second), Higuita has shown many of his qualities in the climb. At the Vuelta, however, he did not shine, leaving too much room for his opponents. However, he finished well with fourth place in Lombardia. PRACTICAL
8 Mads Pedersen - 2,754 points : for some it was a surprise, for others a confirmation of the fact that the Dane has class to compete at high levels. And to think that at the beginning of the season he had to settle for several placings (6th in Sanremo, 7th in Ghent and 8th in Flanders). When the season looked bad, the Trek Segafredo rider rode a good Tour by winning a stage and breaking away several times. The masterpiece at the Vuelta where he won three stages, many placings and the green jersey of the points classification. UNDERVALUED
7 Richard Carapaz - 2,823 points : after winning the bin breakaway at Catalunya, he went straight to the Giro where he was the favorite. The points came from various placings but there was no stage victory and especially the pink race that lost to Fedaia from Jay Hindley. After the second place, he returned only to Poland without surprising while at the Vuelta he immediately dropped out of the standings. He seemed destined to retire and instead he won three stages and the climbers' jersey to the delight of the many fantamanagers who had bet on him. VALUABLE
6 Aleksandr Vlasov - 2,892 points : one of the most appreciated by the people of Fantacycling, and always among the most chosen, he started by winning at the Valenciana and, from a World Tour perspective, finishing on the podium in the Basque Country and Liège. He won the Romandie big time and was on the point of making Switzerland his own if it hadn't been for Covid. Starting among the possible protagonists of the Tour, he was conditioned by a fall that made him lose minutes and condition. In the end he still managed to finish fifth. End of season, however, below expectations. WRESTLER
