Pippo Ganna caught up in the last kilometer after an attempt on Capo Mele

Fourth stage of the Giro d'Italia from Acqui Terme to Andora (190 km).

De Bod, Calmejane, Munoz and Ganna attempted to escape in the early stages of the race, with the Italian getting back up after a few kilometres.

The stage flows without any particular difficulties, the only notable thing to note is Biniam Girmay's double fall along the descent of Colle del Melogno, which forces the Eritrean to retire .

The attackers are caught 5 km from the end, just before the approach to Capo Mele. As soon as the climb begins, Pippo Ganna attacks decisively and goes up the hill with a few seconds ahead of the group.

The sprinters' trains organize themselves in the last kilometer and manage to catch up with the Piedmontese. The sprint starts at -400 meters with Milan forcefully overtaking Kooij and preceding Groves and Bahuaus at the finish line in Andora. The Lidl-Trek rider overtakes Merlier (today 5th) in the points classification and takes the cyclamen jersey.

First Italian victory at this Giro, the Azzurri did very well today who, in addition to Milan, also placed Ballerini 6th, Zanoncello 8th and Lonardi 10th in the top ten.
