Big fall involves favourite Olav Kooij

Jordi Meeus won the first edition of the Copenhagen Sprint, a World Tour race held today over the distance of 235 km. The Belgian from Red Bull Bora hansgrohe won the final sprint ahead of Alexis Renard from Cofidis and Emilien Jeanniere from Total Energies.

The race was affected by a crash involving the big favorite Olav Kooij. With Visma Lease a Bike and Lidl Trek out of the running, with Mads Pedersen giving up the sprint, the remaining group caught the breakaway of four riders, Cedric Beullens, Dan Hoole, Casper Pedersen and Jensen Plowright, 1.5 km from the finish. Meeus, who had withdrawn after winning a stage in the ongoing Tour of Switzerland, thus obtained his 14th career victory.
