Mattia Cattaneo: "This is how Quick Step will change"

Remco Evenepoel at the start of the next Giro d'Italia has sparked many reactions among insiders. Commenting on his presence is the sporting director Davide Bramati , guest of the live Fantacycling: "It was a choice matured in the last week - he explained between one reconnaissance and another that he is doing together with the world champion - we thought that for his growth the Giro was the most appropriate race. There are two timed trials that are suitable for him because the third is a time trial that resembles the Zoncolan and after two weeks of battle, great legs will be needed. The Vuelta he won this year was certainly very different, the important thing is to be in condition right from the start. We will come to the start very motivated”.

In connection also Mattia Cattaneo , one of the Italian riders of the Wolfpack, possible protagonist in the 2023 pink race: "He is part of a list of eligible candidates - explained Bramati - surely if he is one of the eight he will be enthusiastic about doing the Giro after a few years in which he raced in the Tour de France”.

Cattaneo himself is recovering after a negative 2022: “I had Covid in February and it took a long time to recover. For this reason I started training very early for the start of the season which will be at the Tour Down Under in Australia”.

The 32-year-old from Bergamo confirmed that Quick Step is shedding its skin: “Last year's performance in the classics didn't have much influence, it is certain that the grafts that have arrived make it clear that the intention is to support Remco in racing in stages".

Cattaneo, who grew up a lot in the Belgian team, complimented his teammates Julian Alaphilippe : "He is the most talented rider I have ever seen", and Ilan Van Wilder : "He has shown his qualities, he can be a fundamental in the three-week races”. And on Evenepoel the captain: "He drags you along, he motivates you, he's very sure of his means, he just lacks a little experience".
