Second Vollering wins the final stage on Alpe d'Huez
Great show in the last stage of the Tour de France Femmes: Demi Vollering wins the eighth stage from Le Grand-Bornard to Alpe d'Huez (149.9 km).
The race explodes on the Col du Grandon with the attack of Demi Vollering : only Rooijakkers manages to resist the attack of her compatriot, with the Dutch pair catching up with Valentina Cavallar before the summit. Along the descent the Austrian breaks away from Vollering and Rooijakkers, who continue to increase their advantage over the yellow jersey Niewiadoma.
Alpe d'Huez becomes the scene of a thrilling battle between Niewiadoma and the leading pair, with the Polish rider trying to defend her lead of just over a minute in the general classification. With 10 km to go, Vollering and Roojakkers' lead is around a minute.
In the last 5 km Niewiadoma reacts and manages to recover a few seconds.
Roojakkers and Vollering compete for the stage in a sprint, with the latter triumphing on Alpe d'Huez. Niewiadoma resists until the last pedal stroke, arrives fourth and manages to defend the yellow jersey by just four seconds. Third place on the stage for Muzic.
Gaia Realini , best Italian, finished with an excellent fifth place.
