France wins silver and bronze with Madouas and Laporte
Remco Evenepoel (Belgium) wins gold in the Olympic road cycling road race, over the 272km course in Paris.
The first to move among the favorites are Healy and Lustenko , 80 km from the finish line; the two manage to close the morning breakaway, which also included Viviani, and gain about thirty seconds on the main group. Behind them, a group formed by Haller, Kung, Madouas, Woods, Politt, Wright and Sainbayar launches into pursuit.
During the first passage on Montmartre Ben Healy remains alone in the lead, while Van der Poel tries a first attack, but is stopped within a few kilometers. Evenepoel starts on the counterattack and catches up with the first chasing group and, subsequently, Healy.
In the second lap Evenepoel remained alone in the lead with Madouas , while in the group Van der Poel attacked again without managing to make the difference.
During the last lap, even before the Montmartre climb, Evenepoel drops Madouas and flies towards the gold medal, despite a puncture in the last kilometers. Madouas manages to resist and wins the silver, bronze to Laporte .
