Only one chance for the sprinters, Sunday in Monforte de Lemos
The second week of the Vuelta a España opens today with the tenth stage, which features the uphill finish at El Ferial Larra Belagua, a climb very similar to the one tackled on Sunday, with the finish almost flat.
Jonas Vingegaard , after his first show of strength in the ninth stage, is ready to definitively take back the red jersey , with the feeling that none of his opponents are capable of worrying him: having sunk Ciccone , the best in the first uphill week were Gall , Pidcock and Almeida , with the latter appearing to be the Dane's most credible rival, but the problems at UAE Team Emirates are making life difficult for the Portuguese. ( UAE-Ayuso end of story ).
There will be plenty of opportunity to attack every day : from Tuesday to Saturday, there will be continuous climbs, including tomorrow's San Sebastian-style stage in the Basque Country, the fearsome Angliru on Friday, and two tough categorized climbs in succession in the finale of Saturday's stage, which will conclude the main efforts of the central week of the Vuelta. Sunday, in fact, will presumably be the only opportunity for the fast wheels , but watch out for the potential mockery of a breakaway.
Whether or not the breakaways arrive will be a key issue this week: with so many climbs, the GC riders might decide to let the attackers go very often and focus their team's efforts solely on the overall classification battle; in this case, too, much will depend on the attitude of Vingegaard and his Team Visma.
