Tadej Pogacar wins the fourth stage of the 2024 Tour de France from Pinerolo to Valloire of 139.6 km. The stages on Italian territory end, with the first arrival in France of this Grande Boucle. A feat by the Slovenian who sprints to the top of the Galibier and then flies towards the finish line, wearing the yellow jersey again.

Seventeen riders attempted the escape: Juul-Jensen, Bernard, Armirail, Gaudu, Gregoire, Madouas, Van der Poel, Williams, Lazkano, Garcia Pierna, Cristian Rodriguez, Goossens, Barguil, Lutsenko, Eiking, Johannessen and Burgaudeau .  

The yellow jersey group, however, does not leave too much space for the attackers and already on the Montgenevre descent, 50 km from the end, the advantage of the breakaways is around 2'10”.

Attacks among the fugitives begin on the Galibier; Lazkano remains in the lead, with Juul-Jensen, Gaudu and Johannessen behind him. The yellow jersey group, however, resumed the breakaway 25 km from the end, thanks to the work of the UAE men.

The UAE continues forcing and Carapaz , the yellow jersey, loses contact; up front, there are all the best, Pogacar, Vingegaard, Roglic, Evenepoel, Jorgenson and Adam Yates.  

At the end, after the work of Almeida and Ayuso, with an infernal pace, Pogacar takes off ; Vingegaard tries to follow him and stays about a hundred meters from the Slovenian. Behind them, Evenepoel remains about 20" behind, but then loses ground on the descent and is caught up and overtaken by Rodriguez, Ayuso and Roglic.  

Pogacar takes off downhill alone towards the finish line, while Rodriguez, Roglic, Ayuso and Evenepoel catch Vingegaard in the final kilometers on the flat.  

The Slovenian is the new yellow jersey and arrives 34" ahead of Evenepoel, Ayuso and Roglic, with Vingegaard immediately behind them.
