Del Toro overtakes Pellizzari and returns to the lead
Michael Valgren won the fifth stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico, 184 km from Marotta-Mondolfo to Mombaroccio.
A six-rider breakaway from afar, including Alaphilippe, Valgren, Haig, and Zimmermann. The first two remained ahead as the final circuit approached.
UAE Emirates goes up front for Del Toro with Pellizzari keeping watch.
But on the final pass at the Santuario del Beato Sante, Del Toro tries and, together with Jorgenson, manages to break away from Pellizzari and Roglic.
Valgren, who had meanwhile dropped Alaphilippe, reached the finish line alone with a few seconds' advantage over Del Toro, the new overall leader, and Jorgenson. Pellizzari lost about twenty seconds to the Mexican.
