Sprint comeback: Welsford and Rex defeated
Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek) wins the final stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico, from Civitanova Marche to San Benedetto del Tronto (142km).
In the early stages, a three-man breakaway broke out, featuring Gonzalez, Azparren, and De Bondt, but on the climb to Ripatransone, Van der Poel took the lead of the group and created a large selection.
Many sprinters remain behind and reach the top of the climb 30" behind, but on the flat stretch the group regroups with only De Lie remaining behind.
At the intermediate sprint, Jorgenson won the intermediate sprint, taking the time bonus and thus overtaking Pellizzari for second place in the overall standings.
Abrahamsen tries to get ahead of the sprint, but is caught by the pack. Milan manages to come back in the final 500 meters thanks to the great work of Theuns and beats Welsford and Rex .
Del Toro also crashed in the final stages, but within the 3km neutralisation zone, with the Mexican confirming his overall victory.
