The breakaway arrives: Vercher and Kwiatkowski beaten in a narrow sprint

Victor Campenaerts (Lotto Dstny) wins the eighteenth stage of the Tour de France from Gap to Barcellonette, 179.5 km.

A classic hamlet, with many hills to climb, which lends itself to a breakaway: in fact, 36 runners try the action; among the attackers the names of Van Aert, Matthews, Kwiatkowski, Healy, Carapaz, Martin and Hindley stand out. The leading group acquires a maximum advantage of more than 15' over the yellow jersey group.

Along the descent of the Côte des Demoiselles Coiffées, Kwiatkowski , Vercher and Campenaerts lead the rest of the breakaway. The three fought for the stage victory in the sprint with Campenaerts starting at -250 meters and beating Vercher and Kwiatkowski.
