The Belgian proves to be the strongest on the climbs, Finn does well
Jarno Widar wins the 121km fifth stage of the Tour de l'Avenir, from Saint-Gervais-Mont-Blanc to Tignes 2100. The Belgian proves to be the strongest climber and wins the queen stage of the prestigious youth race.
Seixas and Widar climbed the final climb, gaining an advantage over Lorenzo Finn and Omrzel, Nordhagen, and Ramirez. With five kilometers to go, the two leaders had an advantage of about 8" over Finn and about 15" over the trio of Omrzel, Nordhagen, and Ramirez.
Then, about a kilometer later, both Finn and the three pursuers catch up with Seixas and Widar: the general classification leader Decomble is about 40” behind.
With 2.5 km to go, Mateo Ramirez tries to gain an advantage, but Seixas catches up with the Ecuadorian along with the other five in the leading group.
Jarno Widar attacked in the final six hundred meters and won the stage ahead of Paul Seixas, second, and Jorge Nordhagen, third. Mateo Ramirez finished fourth, ahead of Lorenzo Finn, fifth.
The Frenchman Decomble still leads the general classification, with a 51" advantage over his compatriot Seixas and 54" over Finn.
