Gregoire collapses, Vauquelin in yellow jersey

Oscar Onley (Team PicNic PostNL) wins the fifth stage of the Tour de Suisse, from Le Punt to Santa Maria in Calanca, 183.8 km.

On the Julierpass a breakaway formed by Fortunato, Vlasov, Romo, Powless and Bilbao breaks away. The five reach a maximum advantage of 3'30", but in the second part of the stage the UAE starts to work and reduces the gap.

On the first pass of the Castaneda climb, Vlasov and Bilbao extend their lead and reach the summit with a 20" advantage over the leading group, deprived of the yellow jersey Gregoire, who sinks several minutes behind.

The escape is caught in the following flat stretch. On the final climb the first to attack is Alaphilippe followed by Onley who goes off alone. 2 km from the finish line Almeida , in progression, manages to catch up with the British.

In the two-man sprint, Onley starts from afar, resists and beats Almeida by a hair's breadth. Third place for Gall at 25", while Vauquelin finishes 4th and takes the yellow jersey .

Behind the Frenchman is another transalpine, namely a surprising Alaphilippe, 29" behind; Joao Almeida is 39" behind.
