The Fantacycling season begins, line up your team
The time for doubts is over: it's time to field the first team of the year at Fantacycling with the Tour Down Under 2025 which will be held in Australia for a total of six stages.
From January 21 to 26, the runners will have to cover a total of 819.9 kilometers.
Good opportunities for the sprinters in the first, second and sixth stages (there could also be surprises in the first two days with long-distance moves) while in the third stage the climb of Knotts Hill could provide the first turning point in the general classification.
After arriving at Victor Harbor, for a rather undulating stage but which could, once again, smile on the sprinters, here is the fifth and decisive stage with the classic finish at Willunga Hill, climb of 3 km at 7.4% average gradient, tackled twice. Finally the Adelaide circuit, the last day, totally flat.
The scheduled stages:
Stage 1 (21/01): Prospect – Gumeracha (150.7 km)
Stage 2 (22/01): Tanunda – Tanunda (128.8 km)
Stage 3 (23/01): Norwood – Uraidla (147.5 km)
Stage 4 (24/01): Glenelg – Victor Harbor (157.2 km)
Stage 5 (25/01): McLaren Vale – Willunga Hill (145.7 km)
Stage 6 (26/01): Adelaide – Adelaide (90 km)
The favorites
The first race of the year is the most difficult to predict. Let's try to mention interesting names such as Stephen Williams of Israel, winner of the 2024 edition, and the Australians Luke Plapp of Jayco AlUla and Jay Vine of Uae Emirates.
Possible protagonists include Jhonathan Narvaez (Uae), Oscar Onley (Team Picnic) and Finn Fisher Black (Red Bull Bora).
The most anticipated sprinter is Sam Welsford , winner of three stages at Down Under 2024. With him Phil Bauhaus, Tobias Lund Andresen, Bryan Coquard and Corbin Strong .
If fit, Alberto Bettiol is a candidate for the final top 10.
