UAE Emirates rider is new race leader

Jhonatan Narvaez won the fifth stage of the Tour Down Under, 145.7km from McLaren Vale to Willunga Hill.

On the final climb, a symbol of the Australian race, the UAE Emirates rider detached himself from his direct opponents in the last few hundred metres: Oscar Onley, who finished in second place, Finn Fisher Black, third, and Javier Romo, fourth.

The Spaniard, who until this morning was the leader of the general classification, tried to win the stage by attacking about 3 km from the finish line. But he was caught in the last kilometer.

With one stage to go, the Adelaide sprinters' parade, Narvaez leads Romo by 9 seconds and Fisher Black by 12.
