Harper and Chaves were also on the podium today

Tobias Foss won the first stage of the Tour of the Alps, which started today with the 133.3km section from Neumarkt/Egna to Cortina.

The Norwegian of Ineos Grenadiers, first leader of the general classification, beat Chris Harper of Jayco AlUla and Esteban Chaves of Ef in a narrow sprint. Among the favourites, Ben O'Connor, fourth, Geraint Thomas, sixth, Antonio Tiberi, seventh and Romain Bardet, ninth.

Filippo Ganna led the group with a gap of 34 seconds. The Tour of the Alps will close on Friday 19 April. Tomorrow the second stage arrives in Stans, Austria, after 189 km.
