According to Gall; Pidcock falls on the descent and retires

Jonas Vingegaard wins the fifth stage of the Volta a Catalunya, from   La Seu d'Urgell in La Molina/Coll de Pal   (153.1km).

A breakaway forms on Port Colldarnat with Ciccone , Piganzoli, Lecerf, Soler and Rubio.
The Lidl-Trek rider took home a full score on all the mountain climbs and attacked at the foot of the Coll de Pal, just under a minute ahead of the group.

On the descent of the Collada Sobirana, Almeida and Pidcock crashed, with the latter unable to rejoin. From behind, Red Bull set a strong pace throughout the stage, but were left without riders for Evenepoel and Lipowitz on the final climb.

After a few unsuccessful attacks, Vingegaard took the lead and crushed all his opponents. Behind him, a quartet formed with Paret-Peintre, Martinez, Gall, and Lipowitz. Almeida gave up halfway up the climb, while Evenepoel held off the Dane's attack for only a few hundred meters.

The Team Visma rider took a solo win. Gall finished second, while Martinez took the podium.
