UAE Team Emirates won the fifth stage of the Vuelta Espana, in the 24.1 km team time trial in Figueres.

Overall, the race didn't make much of a difference, with very small gaps , especially between the favourite teams.

Lidl-Trek temporarily takes the lead and holds on until UAE arrives, taking the lead by 9" and then also beating Team Visma by 8".

Ineos, who were considered among the favourites on the eve of the race, disappointed , remaining with four men 7km from the finish after an excellent first half-time and finishing fifth at 16".

Bahrain also did badly with Tiberi , the worst of the men in the general classification, losing 31". Gaudu instead tried to defend the red jersey with his Groupama FDJ, but was forced to give it up to Jonas Vingegaard , who now leads the standings with 8" on the UAE trio Soler-Almeida-Ayuso; Ciccone is 9" behind.
