Pithie for the encore, then Strong and Andresen
It is certainly not the most exciting World Tour race on the calendar, yet the Cadel Evans Road Race provides important points for fantasy managers in this first part of the season.
A Category 5 race, the Australian race will be held on Sunday night with start and finish in Geelong for 184 km, featuring a 108 km straight section and then a final circuit of 17 km, with the Challambra Crescent climb to be completed four times.
The favorites
The protagonists of the race will be the same ones present at the recent Tour Down Under, with the exception of the winner Jhonatan Narvaez, who will not be at the start like the entire UAE Emirates. So there will be room for fast riders who can handle the climbs. Red Bull Bora hansgrohe has Laurence Pithie , first last year, as the big favorite. Danny Van Poppel and Finn Fisher Black , third at the Down Under, will also be able to help him, or make their own race. This time Sam Welsford might not be able to keep up with the pace of the best.
Other names to note down are Israel's Corbin Strong , Picnic PostNL's Tobias Lund Andresen and Cofidis' Bryan Coquard .
Among the possible surprises are Albert Withen Philipsen (with his faster teammate Tim Torn Teutenberg) of Lidl Trek, Natnael Testfatsion of Movistar and Georg Zimmermann (third in 2024) of Intermarché.
