Nothing to be done for Elisa Longo Borghini, out of the podium

Demi Vollering wins the European Women's Championship from Privas to Guilherand-Granges, 116.1 km, at the end of a performance of class and authority.

The Dutch athlete attacked with 38 km to go and her attack was effective. With 30 km to go, Vollering had a lead of about 50" over her compatriot Anna Van der Breggen and Poland's Kasia Niewiadoma , while Elisa Longo Borghini was chasing with a further ten seconds behind. Niewiadoma was forced to pull away, as Vann der Breggen was on her wheel to facilitate her teammate's move, while Longo Borghini was unable to catch her immediate pursuers and was left isolated, with no chance of catching up.

Van der Breggen's action remains effective and the Dutchman's advantage over his pursuers increases to around 2' with 10 km to go.

An unstoppable effort from the Dutch cyclist, who took a solo victory in a race she dominated. Second place went to Kasia Niewiadoma, while Van der Breggen finished third, forgoing the sprint and taking the bronze medal.
