2nd Bardet, 3rd Carapaz who overtakes S.Yates in the standings

Isaac Del Toro (UAE Team Emirates) wins the seventeenth stage of the Giro d'Italia from San Michele all'Adige (Edmund Mach Foundation) to Bormio (155km).

In the early stages of the race a large breakaway of 39 riders formed between Passo del Tonale and Mortirolo; after the last descent Eulalio, Cattaneo, Bardet, Stork and Fortunato remained in the lead.

In the pink jersey group Ayuso confirms the crisis and immediately breaks away. On the Mortirolo Tiberi also has trouble, as do Arensman and Storer. Among the remaining big names Carapaz tries to attack and manages to create a gap, with Bernal and Del Toro who do not respond brilliantly, but in the next valley they all regroup.

In the last 20 km, the work of Q36.5 reduces the gap to the breakaway. Bardet starts on the Motte in front, while Del Toro attacks in the group followed by Carapaz . The two manage to catch Bardet with 5 km to go.

Del Toro extends his lead on the final descent and goes on to take the stage victory, ahead of Bardet and Carapaz.
