Pidcock leaves everyone behind on the Alto de Pike and gains on Vingegaard in the general classification

The eleventh stage of the Vuelta a España, starting and finishing in Bilbao (157.4 km), has not yet been announced . Due to violent pro-Palestinian demonstrations near the finish line, the organizers announced at the 12-km mark that they will cancel the stage classification and neutralize the general classification times at the 3-km mark .

The chronicle of the stage

A very fast start rewarded the breakaway of Pedersen , Aular and Soler , with the latter remaining alone in the lead on the Balcon de Bizkaia . However, Visma today gave the attackers very little margin (maximum advantage of 1'30") and caught the Spaniard with 60 km to go.

During the first pass on the Alto del Vivero Landa tries to get away with Buitrago , but the group comes back behind on the second pass thanks also to a couple of attacks by Almeida closed by Visma.

The best riders thus all arrive together at the foot of the short but extremely tough Alto de Pike, and right at that moment, the jury announces the cancellation of the stage classification. On the final climb, Pidcock breaks away from everyone else, and even Vingegaard throws in the towel on the British rider's attacks, but rejoins on the subsequent downhill stretch.

The two gain 10" on Gall, Hindley, Jorgenson and Almeida and 20" on Ciccone, Bernal, Pellizzari and Riccitello.
