Adam Yates (UAE Team Emirates) wins the fifth stage of the Tour of Switzerland from Ambrì to Carì of 148.8 km.

The day's breakaway struggled to form, after the first two GPs a group made up of Lutsenko, Peters, Rubio, Williams and Staune-Mittet managed to break free. The attackers are caught by the main group even before the start of the final climb to Carì (10.2 km at 8%).

Ineos and UAE take turns shooting, then Almeida's work crumbles the group: only Yates, Riccitello, Bernal and Mas manage to stay connected. Adam Yates attacks in the final two kilometers with Mas and Bernal resisting his wheel at first.

Yates attacks again in the last kilometer and clears the way, the Briton takes the fourth stage and reinforces the gold jersey. Almeida recovers and manages to take second place, Bernal third.
