Decisive attack on the Montelago climb

Luke Plapp (Team Jayco AlUla) wins the eighth stage of the Giro d'Italia, from Giulianova to Castelraimondo (197km).

After several attempts and attacks, a large breakaway of 20 men is formed. Even among the leaders, there are numerous breaks and Kelderman, Ulissi, Plapp and Arrieta manage to gain an advantage.

Near the top of the Montelago GPM, Plapp attacks in turn and remains alone in the lead of the race.

The Australian resists and triumphs alone with a one-minute advantage over Kelderman and Ulissi .

Roglic leaves room for the breakaway, Diego Ulissi takes advantage of it and is the new pink jersey of the Giro ahead of his teammate Fortunato.
