Kopecky broke away near the finish line. Last stop in Le Court

Kimberley Pienaar (Le Court) won the eighth and final stage of the women's Giro d'Italia, from Pescara to L'Aquila, over 117km.

Thrilling final between Elisa Longo Borghini and Lotte Kopecky to win the pink jersey. With bonuses awarded to the top three breakaways, it was a head-to-head between the two protagonists of the race. At least until a few meters from the finish line, when the Italian from Lidl Trek, who this morning had just one second ahead of the world champion, overtook Kopecky to win her first Giro d'Italia. On the final podium, in addition to her and Kopecky, also Neve Bradbury, third.

Elisa Longo Borghini, 32 years old, is the reigning Italian champion. In his palmares there are 46 victories including two Tours of Flanders, a Paris-Roubaix and a Strade Bianche.
