Jay Hindley (Bora Hansgrohe) won the awaited ninth stage of the Giro d'Italia, the Isernia-Blockhaus of 191 km, with the second uphill finish of the pink race at 1664 meters and, previously, four other grand prix of the mountain.

In Abruzzo there was no shortage of twists: after an escape attempt started at the beginning of the fraction with, among others, Diego Rosa and Filippo Zana (all filmed), natural selection has finally arrived thanks to the incessant rhythm of the Ineos.

The first to pay is Simon Yates followed by the pink jersey Juan Pedro Lopez, who however manages to limit the damage and maintain the primacy of the general. Wilco Kelderman and Pello Bilbao are also out.

A small group of a dozen runners remain in front, including Vincenzo Nibali (who defends himself very well) and an amazing Domenico Pozzovivo .

Carapaz is the brightest along with Landa and Bardet. Less than a kilometer from the finish the stage is played in six: Hindley starts long and manages to keep his head up to the finish line, mocking Bardet and Carapaz. Pozzovivo closes sixth.

Simon Yates arrived over eleven minutes late.
