Dani Martinez and Geraint Thomas on the podium of the day

Second stage of the Giro d'Italia starting from San Francesco al Campo and arriving uphill at the Sanctuary of Oropa (161km).

An all-Italian breakaway , made up of Fiorelli, Piccolo, Marcellusi, Scaroni and D.Bais, moves in the first kilometers of the race and reaches a maximum advantage of close to 5'.

Piccolo remains alone in the lead of the race at -45 km with a 3' margin over the pink jersey group. The EF rider approaches Oropa with just over a minute, while in the group a nervous Pogacar gets a puncture and falls from a standstill, without consequences.

The same Slovenian attacks 4 km from the end and destroys the competition in just a few pedal strokes. Behind him Martinez leads a small group of ten riders, ahead of Thomas and Fortunato.

Bardet and Arensman confirm yesterday's crisis; O'Connor loses about a minute to Pogacar, after trying to stay at his wheel during the attack, while Tiberi collapses and reaches over two minutes.
