Eighth stage of the Giro d'Italia starting from Spoleto and arriving uphill in Prati di Tivo (152 km).

A large breakaway of fourteen riders takes off in the early stages of the race, but Pogacar's UAE Team Emirates always keeps it under control, so as not to leave too much space for riders close in the standings such as Bardet , Steinhauser and Storer .

The attackers arrive at the foot of Prati di Tivo with just 40" of advantage over the pink jersey group. 4 km from the end V. Paret-Peintre is caught, the last fugitive of the day to give up.

In the group they remain the best in the general group, the first to attack is Tiberi 2 km from the end, with Pogacar, however, keeping good guard. No one else tries to accelerate due to the obvious superiority of the Slovenian. The victory was decided in the sprint between about ten runners: Pogacar took the lead in the last hundred meters and easily triumphed in Prati di Tivo ahead of Martinez and O'Connor .

Black day for Plapp who breaks away at the start of the climb, Lustenko and Zana also do poorly and fall out of the top ten.
