Decisive attack 3.3 km from the finish

Giulio Pellizzari (Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe) wins the seventeenth stage of the Vuelta a España, from O Barco de Valdeorrasa to Alto de El Morredero (143.2km).

Today, Visma kept the race close, giving the attackers very little margin: in fact, Tiberi, Samitier and Tejada, who had escaped from the initial breakaway of 11, were caught even before the final climb, thanks to a violent acceleration from the Red Bull.

Hindley was the first of the big names to set off, with Almeida struggling somewhat, but he rejoined with Pellizzari leading the race, which also included Riccitello, Pidcock, and Vingegaard. On the toughest stretch , none of the six attempted to attack, partly due to the strong wind on the climb.

At 3.3 km, Pellizzari gets off to a strong start, while the riders behind him exchange glances and fail to react. The white jersey increases his lead and takes his first career victory ! Pidcock finishes second, beating Hindley and the other general classification leaders.
