The Dane wins the final stage on the Bola del Mundo
Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma | Lease a bike) wins the twentieth stage of the Vuelta a Espana, from Robledo de Chavela to Bola del Mundo (165.5 km).
On the first climbs of the day, a 36-man breakaway formed, to which the red jersey group did not give much space: the attackers were in fact always kept between one and two minutes behind, thanks to the work of UAE Team Emirates and Red Bull Bora.
Landa approaches the Bola with a 15" lead over Ciccone , Bernal and Van der Lee and 1'20" over the leading group, after yet another protest that undermined the riders' safety.
At the start of the climb, Ciccone gets off to a strong start, followed a few kilometers later by Landa. Gall and Pellizzari drop back at 6 km. At the start of the tough section, however, the group catches up with the two leaders.
Almeida takes the lead, but fails to make a difference. Vingegaard , Hindley , Kuss , and Pidcock remain on his wheel. With 2 km to go, Hindley pulls away, but all five riders remain together.
A kilometer later, Vingegaard sets off, leaving a gap behind and sealing his Vuelta victory: the Dane manages to break away from his rivals and win solo. Teammate Kuss takes second place, with Hindley third.
In the general classification, the first 4 positions remain stable, while Pellizzari gives up 5th place and the white jersey to Riccitello .
