The Dauphiné time trial marks a historic moment, but the numbers don't quite add up

Soudal-QuickStep had set the stage for its 1,000th victory in its history, and reigning world time trial champion Remco Evenepoel did not disappoint, taking victory in the Critérium du Dauphiné time trial.

"Reaching 1,000 victories in 23 years at the highest level is an achievement we are immensely proud of," said Jurgen Foré, CEO of Soudal-QuickStep. "It is a milestone made possible by years of dedication, teamwork and boundless passion."

But is Evenepoel's win really the team's thousandth? It depends on how you count them. Different statistical sources have conflicting numbers: First Cycling reports well over 1000 victories, while Procyclingstats.com (PCS) counts 998, including Evenepoel's victory today.

The discrepancies arise from several factors:

- Differences in the counting of continental championships

- Inclusion or exclusion of national races, criteriums and non-road disciplines

- Different management of team victories (like in the Hammer Series)

- Cases of disqualifications and related review of results

Regardless of the precise numbers, the team's historic success remains indisputable, with over 110 different riders having contributed to this impressive haul of victories.

"I'm proud to have achieved the team's 1,000th win," Evenepoel said. "This success is dedicated to Patrick Lefevere, for everything he has done for this team over the past 20 years. It's an amazing achievement that the entire Wolfpack can be proud of."
