Michael Storer (Team DSM) won the seventh stage of La Vuelta, from Gandia to Balcon de Alicante of 152 km. The Australian rider preceded the Spaniard Carlos Verona (Movistar Team) and the Russian Pavel Sivakov (Ineos Grenadiers). Primoz Roglic (Team Jumbo Visma) maintains the lead in the general classification.

The fraction, conditioned by the scorching heat and the numerous climbs to be tackled (six mountain grand prix including the arrival at an altitude of almost a thousand meters after 8.4 km of ascent with peaks at 14%), saw the retirement of Hugh Carthy (Ef Education-Nippo) and Alejandro Valverde (Movistar Team), who crashed 43 km from the finish. The 41-year-old from Murciano left but due to physical pain he had to raise the white flag shortly after.

The protagonists of the day were the men of the DSM Team with five men on the run among the more than twenty riders who launched the attack at the beginning of the fraction. Michael Storer, Romain Bardet and Chris Hamilton were joined, among others, by Sepp Kuss, Matteo Trentin, Pavel Sivakov, Jack Haig, Kenny Elissonde and Felix Gro ßschartner.

On the last climb Michael Storer makes the difference by detaching Pavel Sivakov and Carlos Verona and wins the stage. The group of men of the classification, with Primoz Roglic, Enric Mas, Miguel Angel Lopez and a perky Adam Yates arrived with a delay of 3'34 "
