What a spectacle on the Great Orme! Kim Le Court-Pienaar (AG Insurance-Soudal) delivered one of the most beautiful images of this Tour of Britain Women, sprinting solo to a stage victory that meant double: not only the day's victory, but also the green jersey as overall leader.
The Mauritian champion left her rivals no chance, launching her lethal attack right from the bottom of the 2.5km final climb to the finish line. A sharp, decisive blow, the kind that makes the difference between the winner and those chasing her. From then on, it was a solitary escape to glory, with her rivals forced to watch her disappear over the horizon.
The lead she built up at the finish line said it all about the superiority she showed at that moment: 14 seconds over Liane Lippert (Movistar), second place, and 20 seconds over Caroline Andersson (Liv AlUla Jayco), who came in third.
With this victory, the AG Insurance-Soudal rider takes the overall leader's green jersey, snatching it from Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx-Protime), who was forced to settle for an unimpressive tenth place in this hilly stage. This change in leadership opens up interesting scenarios for the rest of the race: Wiebes, a sprint specialist, will now have to reinvent herself or rely on her teammates to reclaim the lead.
