Neira wins gold in Montreal: the Spanish athlete outshines everyone in the junior women's event.

Alejandra Neira gave Spain its third gold medal of the World Championships, winning a thrilling five-man sprint in the women's junior road race at the UCI Road World Championships in Montreal.

The Spanish athlete waited for the perfect moment, unleashing a devastating attack in the final 150 meters and leaving Italian Matilde Rossignoli on the spot, who had to settle for silver. Bronze went to Switzerland's Anja Grossmann, who thus found redemption after her disappointment in the time trial.

After Benjamín Noval's double in the time trial and the line race in the junior men's category, Neira's gold medal confirms that the Spanish youth system is a true hotbed of talent: his is a name to keep an eye on in the coming seasons.

"I can't believe it. This is the best day of my life," declared a beaming Neira at the finish line. "I can't believe I'm World Champion. It's incredible."

An almost symbolic passing of the torch: last year's triumph was her teammate Paula Ostiz. Now it's her turn to write her own chapter.
